Kayak Durability & UV Rating
The materials used to build a kayak have a significant impact on the kayak’s durability. Most plastic items from grocery bags to children’s toys are built from polyethylene, the most popular plastic in the world. And so are most kayaks. Camero Kayaks are built from 100% virgin-grade polyethylene resulting in a high resistance to ultra-violet (UV) light and some of the longest lasting kayaks on the market.
Most budget kayaks, particularly those manufactured overseas without stringent quality controls, are built from recycled materials resulting in low UV resistance and less durability. Unfortunately, we often have customers bringing in imported kayaks purchased elsewhere for repairs that are less than a year old. Many such suppliers do not have a shopfront in Adelaide, which can make warranty claims very difficult to manage.
